Women’s Rugby at Ballynahinch RFC
Women’s rugby at Ballynahinch has developed significantly over the past two decades. Like many clubs, their first steps came in the late 1990s and early 2000s, when the women’s game began to expand in Ulster.
By the 2010s, Ballynahinch had established a senior women’s side, which competed in the Ulster Women’s League. The team provided a pathway for female players in County Down, many of whom had previously lacked local opportunities.
In more recent years, the club has prioritised youth development, launching girls’ minis and age-grade teams. These efforts align with IRFU and Ulster Rugby strategies to grow the women’s game. Ballynahinch’s role in this has been vital in ensuring the sport is accessible to players of all genders in the community.
The women’s senior XV continues to participate in Ulster competition, while the youth programme feeds both the Hinch senior side and representative rugby at provincial and national level.
