Opening of New Changing Rooms and Women beat Dungannon in the Junior Cup

Ballynahinch open new inclusive changing facility

Ballynahinch recently hosted Ulster Rugby and UK government officials as they opened their new inclusive changing facilities which have been part funded by the UK Government Levelling Up fund and the IRFU. Women’s rugby continues to be one of the fastest growing sports in the UK and with numbers increasing across all age groups Ballynahinch have created an inclusive facility where everyone can enjoy sport in a safe space. There are two brand new changing rooms and the rest of the changing area has been brought up to current IRFU standards.

Grant officer Richard Hart worked closely with Ulster Rugby officials who managed the Levelling Up Fund on behalf of the UK government, while Steven Seymour acted as project manager and Clem Bassett was invaluable as the go-to troubleshooter on site. The process ran extremely smoothly, allowing club, contractor and funders to work together to deliver the project on time and on budget.

The club would like to thank members for their patience during the build and acknowledge the huge financial contribution made by the late Joe Carlisle and his sister Iris. Their legacy has helped to provide a facility for everyone to enjoy rugby and the benefits of team sport for years to come.

Club Round Up

The Women’s Junior Cup fixture away to Dungannon proved to be exactly what Ballynahinch needed after a difficult run in the league. Tries from Amy Brady, Naomi Reain (Player of the Match), Jemima Johnston and a brace from Orla Morgan saw them comfortably through to the next round.

Lisburn conceded the first round of the Towns Cup, sending the seconds into the next round.

The thirds travelled to Omagh for another difficult league match and lost by a point. They are back at home this weekend versus Portadown.

It was a difficult weekend for the youth boys as all three teams lost at home to Carrick.
